iRobot uses relative suction and scrubbing claims rather than a directly comparable Pa figure on the U.S. pages. MOVA’s 26,000Pa number should therefore not be used to invent a numeric winner. Test logic instead: can the robot reach the area, keep wet pads off carpet, navigate the clutter, and be maintained with available parts?

Roomba Plus 415X: simpler sensing choice

Roomba Plus 415X combines LiDAR mapping, carpet detection, dual spinning mop pads, SmartScrub pressure, tangle-free rubber brushes, an extending edge-sweeping brush, and an AutoWash dock. iRobot says the dock auto-empties debris, rewets pads during cleaning, washes them, and uses heated drying.

The 415X is the most natural fit when the household wants mapped, room-by-room cleaning but does not want an RGB navigation camera moving through private spaces. LiDAR still creates a floor map stored and managed through an account, so it is not a privacy-free appliance. Review map sharing, cloud controls, household access, and reset procedures.

Its simpler object strategy makes floor preparation important. iRobot describes navigation around common obstacles, but cables, socks, pet waste, lightweight toys, and fragile objects should be removed before a scheduled run. No obstacle system warrants leaving a known hazard.

Choose 415X for orderly rooms, pet hair that benefits from rubber rollers, and a camera policy that rules out the 505 or MOVA. Skip it when frequently changing clutter requires more visual classification or when its body and dock do not fit measured clearances.

Roomba Plus 505: visual recognition and edge reach

Roomba Plus 505 adds PrecisionVision AI to ClearView Pro LiDAR. Its DualClean pads use PerfectEdge to extend closer to walls, while SmartScrub applies additional scrubbing behavior. The AutoWash dock empties, refreshes, washes, heat-dries, and performs base-cleaning functions.

This is the Roomba for a household where shoes, bowls, and toys appear often enough that camera-assisted recognition has practical value. It is also the stronger iRobot choice when edge mopping is a primary requirement. Still, recognition varies with object size, light, orientation, and software. Continue to pick up cables and pet waste.

The camera requires an affirmative decision. Read iRobot’s current privacy disclosures, check whether images leave the device, restrict account sharing, use a unique password, and disable remote or image features that are unnecessary. Sensitive rooms can remain no-go zones.

Choose 505 when clutter recognition and extending mop coverage justify the added sensing. Prefer 415X when rooms are routinely prepared and avoiding an RGB camera matters more. Prefer MOVA only if its different brush, dock-temperature, and service ecosystem solve a real need.

MOVA P10 Pro Ultra Gen 2: hair and dock specifications

MOVA lists 26,000Pa maximum suction, 12N mop pressure, pads rotating at 260RPM, 212°F mop washing, one-hour hot-air drying, a 5,200mAh battery, and a triple anti-tangle system for P10 Pro Ultra Gen 2. Those specifications identify its priorities: strong pickup positioning, active hard-floor scrubbing, and automated wet-pad maintenance.

High temperature can help release oily residue, but the water circuit still needs cleaning. Empty dirty water, rinse tanks, wipe seals, clean the tray, and let components dry before long storage. Use only approved solution. Hot components and water also require keeping children and pets away from an open or operating dock.

The high suction label does not guarantee better pickup on every rug. Roller contact, carpet pile, air path, and route completeness matter. Maximum power may also raise noise and energy use. Confirm mop lift or detachment behavior for every carpet; configure no-mop areas where wet contact is possible.

MOVA is a good fit when pet hair and hard-floor residue are frequent and replacement brushes, bags, filters, pads, and solution are readily available. It is a weaker fit when the local service path is unclear or the household wants the more familiar iRobot app and consumable ecosystem.

Dock footprint and clearance

The dock needs more room than its cabinet dimensions suggest. Account for the ramp, robot approach, power cord, ventilation, opened lids, and vertical tank removal. iRobot’s support page publishes model and dock clearance guidance; use the current instructions for the exact item number. Do not place a wet dock on unstable carpet or where a slow leak would go unnoticed.

Use a grounded outlet that meets the manual. Avoid a power strip or extension arrangement unless expressly allowed. Keep the approach straight and free of furniture legs. A robot that cannot reliably dock will not empty, wash, refill, or charge as intended.

Inspect dirty water after the first cycles to establish a cleaning interval. The station’s self-clean routine cannot remove every hair or film from corners, seals, sensors, or removable trays. A hands-free marketing period normally describes dust-bag capacity, not freedom from water-tank hygiene.

Carpet and rug plan

List each rug’s pile height, fringe, backing, and tendency to shift. Confirm what the robot does when carpet is detected: lift pads, avoid the area, vacuum first, or apply boost. A few millimeters of pad lift may be inadequate for plush pile. No-mop zones are safer than hoping wet material stays clear.

Secure fringe and lightweight mats. Watch the first run on dark, patterned, or reflective surfaces. Robot cliff sensors can react differently to very dark material, and thin rugs can bunch under driven wheels. Preserve a manual vacuum plan for stairs, deep pile, upholstery, and spaces the robot cannot enter.

Pet-hair maintenance

Tangle-free means reduced wrapping, not maintenance-free. Hair collects at roller ends, bearings, side-brush hubs, wheels, and mop mounts. Inspect weekly at first. Use only the removal tool and procedure in the manual; sharp blades can damage seals or bristles.

Replace filters when cleaning no longer restores airflow, and never reinstall a washable component while damp unless the manual explicitly allows it. Keep pet bowls away from routes. Do not run any model around unsupervised animals until their reaction is known, and never rely on AI to detect an accident.

Connected-home security

All three use an app for maps, schedules, room controls, and updates. Verify the supported Wi-Fi band and phone operating system. Use a unique password, apply official firmware, limit household permissions, and review retained maps before enabling remote access. Reset the robot and remove it from the account before resale.

Ask what happens without cloud service. Physical start, stop, and dock buttons may provide basic cleaning, while map editing and advanced schedules can depend on the app. If a feature is essential, confirm its offline behavior in the current documentation.

Compare part numbers rather than temporary prices:

Choose MOVA P10 Pro Ultra Gen 2 when its pet-hair tools, high stated suction, and hot-water dock align with the mess and a support path is available.

Before ordering, measure furniture and dock clearance, inventory carpet, decide the camera policy, locate consumables, and schedule water-system care. Those checks predict whether automation lasts after the first week far better than a suction headline.
