The quick sift
Finalize the script and describe where, how, and for how long the audio will be used. Confirm recording, editing, revisions, and usage terms before ordering.
- A script change after recording is different from correcting a performance error.
- Paid advertising and other uses should be described explicitly.
- Confirm whether the performance is human-recorded or synthetic.
Finalize the script before requesting production
Provide the exact words to record, the language, and pronunciation guidance for names, abbreviations, and technical terms. Include the desired pace and an approximate duration only when it is meaningful.
Read the script aloud yourself. Text that looks concise on a page may be awkward to say or too long for a timed slot. If script adaptation is needed, commission that work before final recording.
Mark the script version and approver. Changes from different stakeholders after a session can require rerecording, so agree who can declare the text final.
Describe the performance without requesting imitation
Explain the audience, context, and tone. Useful direction might be calm, conversational, energetic, or instructional, accompanied by notes on why that delivery fits.
A reference can illustrate pacing or mood, but should not request unauthorized impersonation. Fiverr’s AI service guidance requires appropriate permission or rights for voice use and prohibits requests to use voices without those rights.
Confirm whether you are commissioning a human performance, a synthetic voice, or another workflow. If AI or voice synthesis is involved, agree the permissions and restrictions before sharing recordings.
State the intended usage
Describe the publishing channels, whether paid advertising is involved, the territory if relevant, and the planned duration. Include future uses you already know about, such as placing the same audio in several campaigns.
Fiverr’s commercial-use documentation describes license terms with possible qualifications, including time-limited options. Check the current offer and relevant terms rather than assuming that every voice service includes identical rights.
Do not rely on a filename or a generic “commercial” label to answer a specific usage question. If permission is unclear, resolve it before publication. This guide is a procurement checklist, not a legal interpretation of a particular recording agreement.
Separate recording and post-production
Ask whether the deliverable includes cleanup, editing, synchronization to picture, music, separate takes, or split files. Specify the required audio format and naming convention.
If the voice must fit an existing video, supply the approved timing reference. Tight synchronization can require more work than a standalone read. Decide who handles final mixing with music and other sound.
An illustrative brief might request an approved onboarding script as a clean narration file, split by chapter, with pronunciation notes supplied. It could exclude background music and new scriptwriting.
Agree revisions and retakes
Distinguish a misread word from a changed script or a new performance direction. Ask how revisions are handled and what happens if the business changes the text after recording.
Where appropriate, commission a short paid direction check before the full read. Its purpose is to align performance, not obtain free usable audio from several people.
Consolidate feedback with script references or timestamps. Avoid contradictory instructions such as “much slower” while retaining a duration that leaves no room for slower delivery.
Inspect the final recording
Listen from beginning to end with the approved script. Check words, pronunciation, pacing, unwanted noise, abrupt cuts, and missing sections. Confirm that every promised file and version is included.
Save the script, final audio, offer, and usage notes together. Track any agreed expiry or renewal requirement. Before repurposing the recording for a new channel or campaign, check whether that use was covered rather than assuming the original purchase answered every future need.
